Floods, increased storm activity, and rising sea levels will only increase in the coming decades. These major cities could pay a major price.

Beware: Rising Waters

Ocean views may not be so sought after in the coming decades, as rising sea levels could wreak havoc on some of the world’s most popular cities and vacation spots.

Today roughly 40 million people around the world are exposed to catastrophic-grade coastal floods. Typically, these occur only once in 100 years. But the number of people who could be majorly affected by such weather events could rise to 150 million people by 2070, based on an ongoing report done by the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development. The report analyzed world cities most vulnerable to the effects of climate change—namely rising sea levels and increased storm activity.

Here are the top 15 cities that could find themselves hit by dangerous flooding in the coming decades….

15) Amsterdam, Netherlands; 14) Dhaka, Bangladesh; 13) Bangkok, Thailand; 12) Tianjin, China; 11) Tokyo, Japan; 10) New Orleans, LA;  9) Alexandria, Egypt; 8) Osaka-Kobe, Japan;  7) New York City/Newark;  6) Kolkata (Calcutta), India; 5) Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam; 4) Miami, FL;  3) Shanghai, China; 2) Guangzhou, China; 1) Mumbai, India
